The Coyotes travelled to VIBI in Nanaimo, BC over the weekend and came out with a split. Game 1 saw Mike Monster pick up his first as a starter after he fired a complete game 2 hitter allowing 1 run. The Coyotes rallied late in the game to scoring 3 runs in the top of the 7th to give VIBI starter Cody Chartrand a loss. Jeff Bouchard was 2-4, while Greg Adams was 1-3. Game 2 had Marcus Drewry get strapped with a complete game loss where he only surrendered two runs. The Coyotes offense was shut down by left handed pitch Mike Williams of VIBI holding the Coyotes to only 6 hits. Bryan Elias was 3-3, while Matt Sanderson was 1-2 with a walk. Game 3 on the weekend had Keifer Rodway fall to VIBI 5-1. Rodway fell victim to some poor defensive play behind him that led to unearned runs late in the game. He would scatter 10 hits over 8 innings worked. VIBI starter Connor Russell held the Coyotes to just 6 hits while striking out 10. Bryan Elias, Aidan McVea and Greg Adams each had hits. Game 4 saw the Coyotes offense breakout. The Coyotes salvaged the weekend with a 17-7 route of the Mariners. Zach Burlon was tough on the mound, he had a no hitter going through 6 innings before Liam Goodall broke the effort in the 7th. VIBI pitchers walked 12 and hit 8, the Coyotes had some timely hits that broke the game open. Tyler Pentland had a bases loaded double to start a 7 run 4th inning. Greg Adams also had a bases loaded double in the 6th inning to put the game out of reach. Greg Adams was 3-5, while Aidan McVea was 3-4. David Mabon was walked 5 times and scored 3 runs. |

The CCBC season opened with the Coyotes taking on the University of Calgary Dinos. Zach Burlon went 8 innings to pick up his first conference win as the Coyotes routed the Dinos 7-4 at Elks Stadium. Jeff Bouchard, David Mabon, and Tyler Pentland led the offense with hits on the evening. Jeff May pitched a scoreless 9th inning to pick up his first save. Dinos starter Joel Holland took the loss in his first CCBC start. “Burlon again threw well, he left a couple pitches up that cost us a couple runs, however he made some big pitches went it counted to keep the game close and give us a chance to come back. It was encouraging to see our guys scrap back after a 3-0 deficit with some quality at bats. It was also encouraging for Jeff May to shut the door in the 9th and pick up his first save. Being back at home was also welcomed change after being on the road for 19 straight.”- Head Coach Geoff White |

The 2012 version of OC Coyotes baseball hits the turf at Elks Stadium this weekend for the start of then 2012 Championship Season of the Canadian College Baseball Conference. They will host the University of Calgary Dinos at 6:30 Friday night and then be joined by Thompson Rivers University Wolfpack for Saturday and Sunday where each team will play each other twice. There will be tons of exciting college baseball this weekend. See Coyotes schedule
The Coyotes are coming off a month long spring training exhibition season that saw them play 18 games against several top U.S. Junior Colleges. Some of the colleges were Central Arizona, Phoenix College, Arizona Christian, College of Southern Idaho and the past 2 weekends they were 4 and 4 against Spokane Falls CC and 2 Seattle area teams, Pierce JC and Olympic JC. The games against these teams were an invaluable experience and certainly helped ready them for the CCBC season. The OC kids also worked hard in the weight room and batting cages all winter getting bigger and stronger to make them more competitive. The pitching in the spring games was a pleasant suprise, especially veteran Keifer Rodway, who last pitched on opening day 2011, as he was sidelined for almost a year with a serious are injury. He has been unbeatable so far. Big lefty Zack Burlon was very effective against the U.S. teams as was righty Marcus Drewry. Geoff May is also ready for a big season however he needs to establish his control and confidence. The team defence has been stellar against the tough U.S. college teams. Offensively timely hitting will be key as the young Coyotes need to establish some consistency with the bat. Newcomer 1st baseman Greg Adams swings a big bat and will hit cleanup. He will be ably supported by shortstop Brian Elias, outfielder Jeff Bouchard, 3rd baseman Garrett Weise and 2nd baseman Reid Fischer. Weise and Fischer also figure strongly in the teams pitching plans. The catching duties will be shared by 2nd year Matt Sanderson and outstanding rookie Tyler Pentland. Head coach Geoff White along with assistant coaches Jared Johnson and Lyall Foran have worked extremely hard improving the baseball skills of all the OC players and now are excited to see how they perform against the other CCBC teams. Be there when the 2012 Coyotes hit the field for some exciting baseball action! |
