2013 Cardinals Season Outlook
Friday, 08 February 2013 18:48

The 2013 Senior Cardinals are well underway in their attempt to reach it's first Final Four Championship at the senior level in quite some time. Despite being awarded the 2013 Provincials, the club would much rather earn their way into the tournament then being awarded a gift. Our club is hungry to carry on our winning tradition at the junior level and put forward a good effort for the upcoming senior campaign.

The club has been working extremely hard this off-season, training 3x a week since the beginning of November. The majority of this club has trained at the Yale Secondary Sport Academy for the past four years resembling a very tight knit group. The players are eager to step away from our indoor facility and smell the fresh cut grass come March, 1st.

The Senior Club will be managed by Corey Eckstein who enters his 8th year with the Organization. Joining him this year will be Mike Joy who brings 30+ years of coaching experience and a wealth of knowledge to the program. Coordinating our pitching staff this year will be Axel Scott who brings his expertise of playing 4+ years south of the border. Brand Molnar, an ex PBA player will act as our grad assistant this year.

Delair Park will be looking sharper then usual for the upcoming season. The City of Abbotsford has graciously been upgrading the field over the course of spring. Our players have layered over 500 bricks to the playing surface including both bullpens, game mound, home plate, and low spots in the infield. We will be placing a 40ft guard rail in-front of our dugouts, enclosing the field with green screen fencing, and covering the fence with yellow tubing topper. We are in discussions right now about possibly upgrading our scoreboard this season as well.

The Provincial Tournament will be hosted here in Abbotsford during the third week of July. The Cardinals have already announced David Williams as our Tournament Director. We are hoping for tremendous support from our city and parent group to make this years Final 4 one to remember.

We are pleased to announce that a local grade 9 aspiring sports reporter from Yale Secondary will be blogging our 2013 season. Gage Buck will be conducting pre/post game interviews, photos, and in depth behind the scenes coverage. For player profiles, please follow Gage at : gagebuckabbotsfordcardinals@blogspot.ca

The Abbotsford Cardinals played host to the Abbotsford Minor Mosquito A's and Cubs at Delair park this weekend. During the intermission of the doulbe header with the Whalley Chiefs the Mosquito's took to the field. In a terrific display of baseball that saw some stellar fielding and moster hits the Mosquito's thoroughly entertained the crown at Delair. A big thank you goes out to the coaches and players in this first Mosquito Day Game.

We hope to see the future Cardinals back at the ballpark.

The Abbotsford Cardinals went a perfect 6-0 defeating Okotoks 1-0 in the BCs Best tournament final. It's the first time that the Cardinals have won this tournament hosted by the Parksville Royals for the 18th year. In the final, a dominating pitching performance by Daniel Koo led the Cardinals while Adam Revel had the game's only RBI. The team was never down a run in any of the six games played.

2012 Cardinals Season Preview
Monday, 27 February 2012 23:17
The Abbotsford Senior Cardinals look to take their success at the junior level into a final four appearance for the 2012 season.  This year’s club will be managed by Head Coach Corey Eckstein who will take over the realm of GM and Head Coach of the organization. Assistants Derek Florko, DJ Boshmann, and Pat Phelan will add much needed depth to our staff for the upcoming year. We have high expectations for this group of players as always and anything short of a final four will be a disappointing season.

Our pitching staff is anchored by BC Selects pitcher Mathew Forsythe who returns for his last season as a Cardinal. Behind him is junior stand out Daniel Koo who had a remarkable rookie season this past year. Behind him is much needed depth that the team hasn’t had in many years. We have three crafty lefties who could start and work out of the bullpen for us this year. Adam Balliet, Rajin Neger, and Jesse McGowan. Dual position players who will see a large chunk of innings on the mound this year will be Kurtis Kostuk, Ryan Rufh, Luke Cooke, and Carter Williams. Nick Sheehan is also on the mend this year and we are hoping to receive ample innings from him if his arm remains healthy.

The Cardinals might have the best outfield in the league this year. Tyler Krahn will patrol center field, returning player Zach Cardoso will be in left field and Kurtis Kostuk will wrap up right field. Ryan Rufh and Carter Williams will also back up our outfielders when Krahn sits behind the plate and Kostuk is on the mound.

We will have many familiar faces in our infield this year. Triple Crown Brandon Todorok will handle the hot corner with Adam Revel at short stop, Coleton Besse and Luke Cooke over at second, and Nick Sheehan  at first base. Riley Salters much needed offensive abilities will find himself at first base or at the DH position for the upcoming year.

Time will be shared behind the plate this year with Ryan Green, Tyler Krahn, and Jonathon Gilroy behind the dish. All these players are entering their last season with the Cardinals and are familiar with our pitching staff.

Our senior team will take part in the BLE Kamloops Invitational, Parksville, and Spokane tournaments. We will head down to Scottsdale, AZ  on March, 12th for our annual spring training trip before the season commences on April 7th.

Haviland, a native of Merritt, British Columbia, earned a spot on the second team by batting .270 with team highs of six home runs and nine doubles. He also drove in 20 runs. "It's great to see Kirk play well and represent us in what is a very good summer league," said Parkside Head Coach, Joel Weaver. #4. In conjunction with the City and our community partners we are pleased to announce the upgrades for Delair park this comming season. As you can see from the image there will be grass behind the bleachers, shade trees, 3 pic-nic tables and a walking/bike path. There will be additional shade trees in front of the Training Facility to act as a buffer between the residences and the park. Additionally, the long term plan is to pave the gravel parking lot and put in angle parking to increase capacity at Delair. Over the coming months you will see some of our boys out assisting the city with fencing and general landscaping. When you see your Cardinals out there honk to show your support for our players giving back to the community.

Cardinals to build indoor batting facility
Monday, 13 December 2010 23:46

By Dan Kinvig - Abbotsford News
The Abbotsford Cardinals baseball club is spearheading the construction of a new indoor batting centre at Delair Park.

The 4,000-square-foot structure will replace the existing outdoor batting cage at the DeLair Road ball diamond. The local B.C. Premier Baseball League club has offered to cover all costs associated with construction and operation of the facility, and the proposal was passed by Abbotsford city council on Monday.

“It’s something that was long overdue,” said Rob Koslowsky, a member of the Cardinals’ steering committee. “Our biggest concern with the existing batting cages are, they can’t be used year-round. The Premier League has turned into more of a year-round sport, especially for the senior high kids, and we needed a place where they could practice.”

The Cardinals had used the Ag-Rec show barn as their winter training home, but that location was less than ideal because the club had to haul all its equipment out each weekend to make way for the flea market.
