The team then heads indoors to our winter facility to refine skills and work with trainers on physical conditioning. Langley Blaze have drafted 26 players in the last 9 years including 3 first round picks in the last 4 years which is an accomplishment that very few top US programs have done. The Langley Jr. Blaze are looking forward to a challenging and exciting 2009 schedule, which in addition to the regular BCJPBL season will include:
March 14-19 Phoenix, Arizona Spring Training Trip: Daily practices and games against Phoenix area high school teams will get the squad tuned up for the regular season. In addition, we will be attending MLB spring training games and an ASU game, touring college campuses and talking to college coaches, and doing some mountain climbing. This trip will help continue the Blaze tradition of team building and exposing players to the atmosphere and challenges of college and professional baseball.
April 3-5 Jr. Premier Jamboree at McLeod Park
May 15-18 Jr. Blaze Invitational Wood Bat Tournament at McLeod Park
May 23-25 Seattle Triple Crown Memorial Day National Tournament in Snohomish Co., WA
June 5-7 Lynden Lightning Wood Bat Classic Tournament in Lynden, WA
July 3-5 North Shore Invitational Wood Bat Tournament at Parkgate Park
July 18-19 BCJPBL Round of 8 Playoffs
July 24-26 BCJPBL Final 4 Provincial Championships at Delair Park in Abbotsford
This years Jr. Blaze squad should contend for the provincial championship as it combines a deep pitching staff, solid defense, above average team speed and an explosive offence. Nic Calla, Ricky Bertrand, Aaron Dick, Scott McCarthy and Luke Simpson are returning players who all saw pitching action last year, and theyʼll compete with newcomers Brad Smith, Billy Germaine, Garret Smith, Jake Maters and Adrian Bullaoit for mound time. Catching duties will be handled by Matt Pentland and Nathan Ackerman. Versatility is a strength of the defense as multiple players will see time in both the infield and outfield. The strength of the infield will be their ability to make the routine play, anchored by Brad Smith, Scott McCarthy, Billy Germaine, Ricky Bertrand, and Garret Smith, with Jake Maters and Nathan Ackerman playing valuable utility roles. The outfield features above average speed and arms, with Michael Krische, Luke Simpson, Aaron Dick and Adrian Bullaoit, while Matt Pentland and Garret Smith bring added depth. Overall, the 2009 edition of the Langley Jr. Blaze will bring a fundamentally sound, aggressive style of play to the ballyard day in and day out, so if you want to see the top 16 and under baseball in BC head down to beautiful McLeod Park to take in this yearʼs Boys of Summer. |
