2012 Cardinals Season Preview

The Abbotsford Senior Cardinals look to take their success at the junior level into a final four appearance for the 2012 season.  This year’s club will be managed by Head Coach Corey Eckstein who will take over the realm of GM and Head Coach of the organization. Assistants Derek Florko, DJ Boshmann, and Pat Phelan will add much needed depth to our staff for the upcoming year. We have high expectations for this group of players as always and anything short of a final four will be a disappointing season.

Our pitching staff is anchored by BC Selects pitcher Mathew Forsythe who returns for his last season as a Cardinal. Behind him is junior stand out Daniel Koo who had a remarkable rookie season this past year. Behind him is much needed depth that the team hasn’t had in many years. We have three crafty lefties who could start and work out of the bullpen for us this year. Adam Balliet, Rajin Neger, and Jesse McGowan. Dual position players who will see a large chunk of innings on the mound this year will be Kurtis Kostuk, Ryan Rufh, Luke Cooke, and Carter Williams. Nick Sheehan is also on the mend this year and we are hoping to receive ample innings from him if his arm remains healthy.

The Cardinals might have the best outfield in the league this year. Tyler Krahn will patrol center field, returning player Zach Cardoso will be in left field and Kurtis Kostuk will wrap up right field. Ryan Rufh and Carter Williams will also back up our outfielders when Krahn sits behind the plate and Kostuk is on the mound.

We will have many familiar faces in our infield this year. Triple Crown Brandon Todorok will handle the hot corner with Adam Revel at short stop, Coleton Besse and Luke Cooke over at second, and Nick Sheehan  at first base. Riley Salters much needed offensive abilities will find himself at first base or at the DH position for the upcoming year.

Time will be shared behind the plate this year with Ryan Green, Tyler Krahn, and Jonathon Gilroy behind the dish. All these players are entering their last season with the Cardinals and are familiar with our pitching staff.

Our senior team will take part in the BLE Kamloops Invitational, Parksville, and Spokane tournaments. We will head down to Scottsdale, AZ  on March, 12th for our annual spring training trip before the season commences on April 7th.
