Kamloops, BC---The host Thompson Rivers University WolfPack came away with the most individual honors as the Canadian College Baseball Conference held its annual awards banquet this afternoon (May 10th). Four members of the WolfPack were honored at the banquet, which was held at the McArthur Island Curling Club prior to the start of the 2012 CCBC Championship. Alex Condon (third base/designated hitter, Victoria, BC) was captured the top home run and most runs batted in titles. Condon had nine homers and 30 R.B.I.’s. Teammate David Hole (catcher/first base, Vancouver, BC) was the league’s top hitter with a batting average of .374. WolfPack right hander Denver Wynn (Kamloops, BC) was tied for the most wins in the CCBC this year along with Alex Regan of the Prairie Baseball Academy Dawgs of Lethbridge Alberta. Both had five. Regan had the best earned run average at 1.07. For the second year in a row, the Dawgs had the best team batting average (.278) and the best team earned run average (2.82). The Dawgs had the most players selected to the conference all-star teams. PBA had eight players chosen followed by the Vancouver Island Baseball Institute with seven, the WolfPack had five, Okanatan College and the University of Calgary each had two selections. David Hole was the only three time all-star. In 2010, he was named as a second team designated hitter, in 2011 as a second team first baseman and this year as a second team catcher. Bretton Gouthro (Calgary, AB) of PBA is a second time first team center fielder while Denver Wynn of the WolfPack is a first team pitcher in 2012 after being a second team selection a year ago. The first all-star team consisted of Gouthro, Wynn, Catcher Travis Steinke (Red Deer, AB) first baseman Mitch Dornblut (Surrey, BC), second baseman Evan Comeau (Waverly, NS) left fielder Corey Wood (Fredricton, NB, designated hitter Luke Barry (Swift Current, SK) and pitcher Regan of PBA, third baseman Condon, Utility man Tyler Lowey (Calgary, AB), both of TRU. Shortstop Dallas Monk (Comox, BC), right fielder Liam Goodall (Nanaimo, BC) and pitcher Connor Russell (Victoria, BC) of VIBI. On the second team: Hole and designated hitter Jimmy Semaschuk (Whitehorse, YT) of TRU , VIBI’s second baseman Chad Schultz (Swift Current, SK), third baseman Cody Andreychuk (Nanaimo, BC), pitcher Cody Chartrand (Nanaimo, BC) and left fielder Aaron Witzke (Lethbridge, AB). Pitcher Shawn Dawson (Drayton Valley, AB) of PBA along with University of Calgary first baseman Kyle Fruson (Medicine Hat, AB) and centerfielder Miles Hunter (Calgary, AB). Okanagan College pitcher Zach Burlon and shortstop Brian Elias were the other selections. The CCBC Championship tournament begins this afternoon (May 10) with PBA facing VIBI at 2 pm PDT at Norbrock Stadium. Other opening day games have PBA playing Calgary at 4:30 pm PDT, the opening ceremonies set for 7 pm PDT followed by the TRU WolfPack taking on the Okanagan College Coyotes at 7:15 pm PDT. The round robin event continues Friday and Saturday (May 11-12). The Championship final is set for 1 pm on Sunday (May 13) th. The Prairie Baseball Academy are the defending champions.
